Our Vision

Our Mission

”Kali’s Place, A Home for Kids” is a 501(c)3 nonprofit group home that serves as an emergency shelter for children in foster care awaiting placement. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life to the youth we serve, every child deserves a caring, safe place to call home. The founders, Debria Brown & Gina Stovall are kindred spirits and best friends, they share a passion for helping others,
especially children. Each have over thirty years experience working in schools and communities with at-risk youth at the grassroots level. Gina, a social worker and health educator in the HIV field, has reached thousands of inner city youth nationally with prevention education and street outreach. Debria, a special education teacher and foster care mother, has opened her home and heart to close to a hundred children, legally adopting 19 of them herself to keep siblings together and out the system.

Our Angel

“Kali’s Place” is named in honor of our beloved granddaughter Kali Symone King. Our princess got her wings in 2014, one month before her 5th birthday. She was so smart and sweet, her light was bright, she will forever live on in our hearts…

Our Why

”It takes a village to raise a child” is an African proverb that means that an entire community of people must provide for and interact positively with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment. The foster care system in the United States faces a capacity crisis. Over 484,000 children in the system with a median age of 6 1/2 years. Approximately 20,000 young adults 18-21 age out of the system annually with no where to go. No one can do everything, but everyone can do something...BE THE VILLAGE!!!

Testimonials

PF

I lived most of my life in survival mode, never having a stable home. But since Ms. Debbie took me in and showed me love, I learned that I'm more than a survivor, I am a conqueror, no weapon formed against me shall prosper!!! I am 21 now and in college with a bright future, I can never thank her enough.

Six years ago I lost custody of all five of my children due to substance abuse and neglect, I had no family willing to take them. Had it not been for Ma. Debbie stepping in, my children would be lost and separated in the system. They are thriving now, and have a chance at a good life. I am forever grateful for her kind heart...
